Brazilian/American
singer/songwriter
Monica da Silva
has spent her
life bouncing
between two
continents.
Wherever she
goes her musical
muse tags along.
And like a new
dress or a great
pair of flip
flops, inspired
lyrics
and
catchy melodies
are things she
picks up along
the way.
Beginning in
childhood with
the
piano and
the flute and
always
singing,
Monica went on
to write
songs
and perform with
her siblings
under the name
Nectar. The
three
toured
the
college
and bar
circuit
extensively...in
a big, white
van.
Monica then
set out on her
own, performing
and recording her first solo
album.
Co-writing with
guitarist Brett
Ratner (who has
written and
produced
songs
for prime time
shows such as
"Criminal
Minds," "Saving
Grace," "The
Wedding Bells,"
and "My Name is
Earl") and
co-producing with
Grammy
nominated
producer/engineer
Rick Barnes
(Lucky Boys
Confusion, Koko
Taylor,
Lonnie
Brooks, Liquid
Soul), the album
delivers
melodic,
accessible power
pop, combined
with elements of
electronica. Add
Monica's
lilting,
disarming, and
heartfelt vocals
and you have a
sound that is
unmistakably
unique yet
instantly
familiar.
Not
letting her
Brazilian
heritage (and
tri-lingual
writing skills)
go to waste,
Monica records
many of her best
songs in Spanish
as well as
Portuguese.
Armed with
exotic good
looks as well as
formidable
talent, expect
Monica to
take
American and
Latin American
audiences by
storm in the
coming year.
She has
recently been
featured on
several leading
podcasts,
including
Piratepods, Next
Big Thing (NBT),
Indie Music
Sampler, Indie
Launch
Pad, and
XY Rocks.
Regarding
Monica's album:
The 11-song
CD features
performances by
noted musicians
Larry Beers
(Sonia Dada and
Crash Test
Dummies), Jon
Hill (of former
MCA recording
artists Homeless
J), former
Island Records
recording artist
Nicholas
Tremulis, and
well known
Chicago music
figure Henry
Jansen. A few
tracks
also feature
Monica's
brother, Bruce
Driscoll, member
of EMI recording
artists
Blondefire.
